Stop drowning in dashboards and watch four numbers
Dear brand owner,
I've sat with founders who have eleven dashboards open and still can't tell me whether last month was good. That's not a data problem. It's a too much data problem. When everything is a metric, nothing is a signal.
Pick your four
You can run a healthy store watching a small handful of numbers. For most brands, these four tell you almost everything.
- Conversion rate — of visitors who arrive, how many buy?
- Average order value — how much is each order worth?
- Repeat rate — how many come back and buy again?
- Contribution per order — what's left after cost and ads?
Multiply the first three, watch the fourth, and you understand your business better than any twenty-tab report.
Trends beat snapshots
A single day's number means almost nothing — it's weather, not climate. What matters is the direction over weeks.
- Check weekly, not obsessively hourly
- Compare like with like — same weekday, same season
- Write down what changed when a number moves
- Act on trends, ignore the daily noise
A metric you check every day but never act on isn't insight. It's a nervous habit.
Data should end an argument, not start one
The point of measuring is to make a decision and move. Before you open a dashboard, know the question you're asking and what you'll do with each possible answer. If there's no action attached, close the tab.
Four numbers, checked weekly, acted on honestly, will out-perform a wall of dashboards every quarter. If your reporting has grown into something you dread opening, start with a FREE call and we'll cut it back to what matters.
