Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 July 2026
This policy explains how I collect, use and protect personal data through this website (lukemichael.co.uk). It applies to people who visit the site, contact me through it or subscribe to my weekly emails.
1. Who I am
Luke Michael, a UK-based eCommerce Consultant & Developer, is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, use the FREE call enquiry form.
2. What I collect
- Enquiry information. When you use an enquiry form (FREE fit call, paid advisory, or a request for my rates), I collect the details you provide — your name, work email, website URL, whatever you tell me about your enquiry, and any suggested call times.
- Weekly email subscriptions. When you subscribe in the footer or the “Before you leave” form, I collect your email address and the signup source so I can send the weekly insights and manage your subscription.
- Analytics information (only if you consent). If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects information about how the site is used — such as pages viewed, approximate location (country or region), device and browser type, and how you arrived. This is pseudonymised and isn't used to identify you personally.
- Your browser choices. A small first-party cookie remembers your cookie preferences. Local browser storage also remembers for 24 hours when you dismiss or complete the weekly email pop-up, so it doesn't immediately appear again.
I don't ask for special category (sensitive) data, and I'd ask that you don't include sensitive personal information in enquiry messages.
The rebuild diagnostic is processed entirely in your browser. Its answers and result aren't submitted to me or stored by the site.
3. Cookies and local storage
The site uses the following browser storage. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them — until then, Google Consent Mode keeps analytics switched off.
| Item | Type | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
lm_consent | Strictly necessary (first party) | Remembers your cookie choice | 6 months |
lm-newsletter-hidden-until | Local storage (first party) | Prevents the weekly email pop-up reappearing immediately after it is closed or completed | 24 hours |
_ga | Analytics (Google) | Distinguishes visitors | Up to 2 years |
_ga_N67S5N8YX9 | Analytics (Google) | Maintains analytics session state | Up to 2 years |
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie settings button at the bottom of the screen, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
4. Why I use your data, and the legal basis
- To respond to your enquiry and, if we go on to work together, to carry out that work. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract and my legitimate interest in responding to genuine business enquiries and keeping an appropriate record of our correspondence.
- To send weekly insights and tips. Legal basis: your consent, given when you deliberately submit either weekly email form. An enquiry form submission does not add you to this list.
- Analytics, to understand how the site is used and improve it. Legal basis: your consent.
- Remembering your cookie and pop-up choices. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in respecting the choices you've made and avoiding repetitive prompts. This information stays in your browser.
5. Who I share it with
I don't sell your data or give it to third parties for their own advertising. I rely on a small number of service providers who process data on my behalf and only to provide their services:
- Static.app — website hosting and handling form submissions.
- My email provider — receiving and storing correspondence and sending the weekly emails you requested.
- Google — Google Analytics, used only with your consent.
I may also disclose data where I'm legally required to do so.
6. International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where UK data protection law requires it, those transfers must be covered by an adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long I keep it
- Enquiries and correspondence: kept only as long as reasonably needed to deal with your enquiry, manage any resulting working relationship, resolve disputes and meet legal or accounting obligations, then deleted.
- Weekly email subscription: kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent, or until I stop sending the emails. I may retain the minimum information needed to record and respect an unsubscribe request.
- Analytics: retained in aggregated, pseudonymised form according to Google Analytics' data-retention settings.
- Cookie preference: 6 months, after which you'll be asked again.
- Weekly email pop-up choice: kept in your browser for 24 hours.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you may have the right to access your data; to have it corrected or erased; to restrict or object to how it's used; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect processing that already happened lawfully.
You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing. You can stop the weekly emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email. You can withdraw analytics consent using Cookie settings.
To exercise another data protection right, use the advisory form or FREE call form and make clear that your message is about privacy.
9. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
10. Security
I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your data safe. No method of transmitting or storing data online is completely secure, but I work to protect the information you share with me.
11. Children
This site and my services are aimed at businesses and aren't directed at children. I don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
12. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be on this page, with the "last updated" date at the top.
