Too much choice stalls the sale
Dear reader,
It feels generous to offer everything: every variant, every option, every product, all at once. But faced with too much choice, people often don't choose at all. They stall, and a stalled shopper is a lost one.
Help people decide
- Guide the way in with clear categories and sensible filters
- Recommend best-sellers or a "most popular" to give a starting point
- Set good defaults so the common choice is one tap
- Curate, don't just list. Editorial beats a wall of products
Choice is good. Unstructured choice is paralysing. Your job is to make the decision feel easy, not to prove how much you stock.
A confident recommendation helps more than a hundred equal options. People want a nudge, not a spreadsheet.
Curate with intent
Think about the customer standing in front of a full shelf with no idea where to start. A little editorial guidance, a clear path and a gentle steer turn overwhelm into a decision.
Offer plenty, but lead people through it. The easier you make deciding, the more often people actually do.
Best,
