An independent technical audit of the store you already run
You do not need another automated report. You need to know which technical problems are worth acting on.
I review the theme, app stack, storefront performance, integrations and delivery risks behind an established eCommerce store, then turn the findings into a practical order of work.
Most stores already have more technical observations than they can use.
A performance tool has warnings. An agency has a backlog. Apps report conflicts. Developers mention technical debt. Somebody has a spreadsheet of improvements from the last redesign.
The problem is not the shortage of findings. It is that each finding arrives without the commercial context needed to rank it.
A useful audit connects technical evidence to customer impact, operational risk and the realistic cost of doing something about it.
Technical debt is not automatically bad. Unmanaged debt is.
Every trading store contains compromises. Some are sensible and stable. Some create a small daily cost. Some are quietly one update or campaign away from becoming an incident.
Treating all of them as urgent produces an unaffordable list. Ignoring all of them lets real risks sit beside harmless untidiness.
I separate those categories and explain the consequence in plain language, so the team can spend effort according to evidence rather than whichever warning sounds most technical.
Get a technical view you can actually prioritise.
Start with a free call A direct conversation with the person who will inspect and deliver the work. The audit follows the store from customer experience to underlying cause.
- Agree the decisions it must support A pre-rebuild review, supplier change, investment decision and maintenance plan require different depths of evidence.
- Inspect representative journeys Homepage, discovery, products, cart, checkout-adjacent behaviour and account flows are reviewed across devices.
- Review the technical foundation Theme structure, apps, scripts, performance, integrations and visible maintenance risks are examined.
- Rank findings by consequence Customer impact, trading risk, operational cost, effort and confidence shape the priority—not severity labels alone.
- Turn findings into actions You receive a clear order of work, dependencies and explanation of what can sensibly be left alone.
The person auditing the work also knows what implementation actually costs.
I combine independent consultancy with hands-on development across Shopify, Shopify Plus, BigCommerce and WooCommerce.
That helps keep recommendations proportionate. I know when a “small fix” hides real complexity and when a grand recommendation can be solved by one well-placed theme change.
I have no incentive to turn the audit into a rebuild. If the current foundation is sound, that is useful evidence too.
You may be wondering…
“Is this a security audit?”
It can flag visible security and maintenance concerns, but it is not a penetration test or formal security certification.
“Will you review our agency’s work?”
Yes. I can assess a live implementation, proposal or backlog without making the relationship adversarial.
“Do we receive recommendations?”
Yes—ranked, explained and separated into immediate, planned and optional work.
“Can you implement the findings?”
Yes, where appropriate, or I can provide enough clarity for your existing team to deliver them.
Unranked problems turn every roadmap conversation into a contest of opinions.
A useful audit gives the business a shared technical picture and prevents low-value tidying from displacing work with real customer or operational consequence.
There are two ways to approach it.
Collect more disconnected warnings
Let every tool and supplier add another priority without reconciling the list.
Create one defensible order
Connect the evidence to business impact and decide what deserves action, monitoring or no work at all.
You do not need a polished brief. Send me the useful version of the problem, the store URL and anything the team has already tried.
I will look at the website before we speak and tell you plainly whether I am the right person to help.
